Overall utility costs in the BorderPlex are somewhat higher than in competing markets, but cost is usually not as important as reliable service. The BorderPlex utility suppliers have an outstanding track record for reliability. The BorderPlex has been immune to the “brown outs” that have affected many Eastern and Midwestern markets. Rates for electric, natural gas, renewable energy resources, telecommunications, and water and wastewater systems are all regulated by the New Mexico Public Regulations Commission. This regulation provides stable pricing over long periods.
Local utility providers such as El Paso Electric, PNM, Qwest and the City of Las Cruces will work with new industry to provide economical and reliable service.
